I wanted to send you some information on what I am doing and see if you or your company would like to be a part.  I have sent letters to the Governor Bob Riley asking him to declare March 31st as Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Awareness Day.  Well instead of declaring the one day, he has been gracious enough to declare March 2008 as Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Awareness Month (www.governorpress.state.al.us/pr/proc-2007-11-05-cdhawarenessmo.asp).

We are holding an awareness rally, called Caden’s Cause, in Huntsville on Saturday, March 29th at the Cahaba Shrine Center at 6001 Pulaski Pike from 12:00 noon until 3:00pm. We will have fun games for kids of all ages, from face paintings to clowns. Proceeds from the refreshment sales will be donated to Breath of Hope, Inc., a non-profit organization and the NICU at Children's Hospital in Birmingham.

In addition for the need of volunteers, the following items are also needed for the Rally itself:
  • Refreshments: individual snack items such as chips, cookies, candy bars, etc and drinks (water and sodas).
  • Games for the children to play: carnival type games and a couple of those inflatable bouncy houses for the kids
  • Prizes for the children: small inexpensive toys (i.e., Oriental Trading Company) to give to the children
  • Entertainment: local groups willing to perform (i.e., dance team, band, choir, etc.)
  • Silent Auction: items that can be auctioned off
This is a very short video clip about Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia and my son, Caden's, journey (less than 3 ½ minutes).  http://www.onetruemedia.com/shared?p=4ef9714141efe61ad36e87&skin_id=701&utm_source=otm&utm_medium=text_url

The Huntsville Times ran an article on us in Jan 22, 2008 edition.

I would be extremely honored if you would participate in making March 2008 a special month to recognize people born with congenital diaphragmatic hernias, to remember loved ones who lost their battle with congenital diaphragmatic hernias, and to honor the dedicated health professionals who work with us.

I appreciate your time and just the consideration.  If you have any questions or need to contact me, please feel free to call me at 426-1296 or email jparker@breathofhopeinc.com.
