What goes on at the state level?

On Friday, January 24th, eight of your fellow NASHRM board members traveled to Montgomery and attended the Alabama State Council of SHRM quarterly meeting.  We were challenged by our new state director (Andrea Goolsby of Birmingham to) to "Expansion... All ways... In all ways..."   This is the theme for the state council for 2014.   We discussed ways to make the HR profession have an even greater impact on the state, region and also our organizations.   The afternoon session we heard from different area directors ranging from Legislative, Membership, Wellness and College relations on goals for each area and how they can provide support the local chapters.   Much discussion was also given to our annuals conference in May (May 13 and 14th at the Birmingham Sheraton at the BJCC) so save the date!   The state council is comprised of 16 local chapters within the state and NASHRM has always been an integral part of the success of the state council.  It is great to see local NASHRM members step up into greater roles on the state council.  Juanita Phillips is the state director of Legislative Affairs, Michelle DeBord is the Area 1 District Director, Mellissa DeVore and Mike Bean are the annual conference co-chairs and Kirsten Stutts assists with the web and social media relations for the state council.
